Coachella Rail Vision Moves Forward
The future of rail travel in the Coachella Valley is beginning to take clearer shape, as local officials and transportation planners unveil new progress on the proposed Coachella Rail Station—an ambitious project designed to connect the desert more directly with Southern California’s major urban centers.

Following months of community input, the Coachella Rail Station Feasibility Study has reached a major milestone. Residents, business leaders, and stakeholders participated in workshops, advisory meetings, and public events, helping guide the early vision for what could become a transformative transportation hub for the region.
The proposed station is part of the larger Coachella Valley Rail (CV Rail) program, a long-term plan to establish daily passenger rail service linking the Coachella Valley with Downtown Los Angeles, Orange County, and Riverside County along a proposed 144-mile corridor.

Planners have now released an updated virtual walkthrough of the station, showcasing a more refined and locally inspired design. The concept includes enhanced shading for desert conditions, improved architectural features, and a layout intended to reflect the cultural identity of the City of Coachella while improving accessibility and connectivity.

Local leaders say the station area could eventually support new housing, commercial development, open space, and improved transportation options for pedestrians, cyclists, and transit users—positioning Coachella as a key gateway into the valley.
Momentum is also building behind the broader rail project. The Riverside County Transportation Commission has approved $80 million to move forward with the next phase of environmental studies and preliminary design work. While full construction funding has not yet been secured and service remains years away, officials describe this as a critical step toward eventual implementation.

For now, the message to the public is clear: the vision is no longer theoretical. With planning advancing and community input continuing to shape the outcome, Coachella’s long-discussed rail connection is steadily moving from concept toward reality.
