Come Cheer for the Dogs

A good save deserves a cheer—whether it happens on the ice or gives a shelter dog another chance at life.

California Paws Rescue is bringing those two kinds of saves together for Hockey for Hounds, inviting Coachella Valley residents to support the hometown Firebirds while helping dogs find loving homes.

Scheduled for Sunday, October 11, at 3 p.m. at Acrisure Arena, the fundraiser combines an afternoon of hockey with a mission that reaches well beyond the rink. Organizers say a percentage of proceeds will support California Paws Rescue’s care for dogs awaiting adoption.

The event’s message says it all: “Home Team. Home Rescue. One Great Cause.”

Founded in 2011 and headquartered in Palm Desert, California Paws Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to rescuing and protecting English Bull Terriers. The organization says it has rescued, rehabilitated and rehomed approximately 3,000 dogs since its founding—many pulled from shelters just hours before scheduled euthanasia.

For those animals, a second chance begins with practical necessities: safe shelter, medical attention and rehabilitation. The rescue works to find carefully matched, loving homes, allowing each dog to settle in and thrive.

Hockey for Hounds offers residents a welcoming way to help that work continue. Whether you follow every Firebirds game or simply enjoy an outing with friends, the afternoon provides another reason to cheer.

An understanding of the offside rule is optional; a soft spot for dogs will do nicely.
