OAK RIDGE BOYS
Story and Photos by Pat Krause
The Oak Ridge Boys are currently on their American Made Farewell Tour, scheduled to run through the end of the year — though, with these legends, who really knows? On July 5th, they brought their unmistakable sound to The SHOW at Agua Caliente Resort Casino, a perfect wrap-up to the 4th of July weekend.

Everyone knows the hits: “Elvira,” “Bobbie Sue,” “American Made.” These timeless songs have thrilled fans for decades. What began as a gospel quartet evolved into a beloved group that’s part of the soundtrack of American life.
At the start of the concert, the audience was informed that Richard was ill and unable to perform, and Duane was facing voice issues — but true to form, the group assured the crowd they had never canceled a show. They brought in a new bass singer to stand in for Richard, and the show went on. They also paid tribute to the late Joe Bonsall, who is dearly missed, and introduced his replacement: tenor Ben James, now a proud new member of the quartet.

The Oak Ridge Boys never seem to slow down. They continue to perform to sold-out venues, always blending old favorites with new material. For some, it was a night of sweet nostalgia; for others, an introduction to music that spans generations. Their signature mix of gospel, country, and a splash of rock ’n’ roll keeps their sound fresh and distinct.

Though they don't play instruments themselves, their harmonies are award-winning — and backed by a top-notch five-piece band. Each band member had a moment in the spotlight, with a violin solo that added a touch of bluegrass charm.

Despite the voice challenges, the group blended beautifully during their gospel numbers, and the crowd responded with enthusiastic applause — especially for the new tenor and bass. Toward the end of the show, they invited the audience to sing along with “Elvira,” and the crowd gladly stood, singing and swaying to every word.
The Oak Ridge Boys are proof that classic music, sung from the heart, never goes out of style.
Be sure to check out more top-tier entertainment coming soon to THE SHOW — including Chris Isaak, The Psychedelic Furs, Jimmy O. Yang, and Yelawolf. There’s always something special on the way.
