Cathedral City Senior Center Gala
Story and Photos by Pat Krause
The Cathedral City Senior Center held its “A Night to Remember” gala on the 17th, and the name fit the evening just right. The event took place in the spacious Cahuilla Ballroom at the Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa, a setting that matched the spirit and importance of the occasion. The gala was presented by Steve Tobin, Johnny Krupa, and The Grace Helen Spearman Charitable Foundation, bringing together a community that clearly cares.

Patrick Evans served as emcee, and as always, he kept the evening moving while making sure the many donors received the recognition they deserved. It takes a village—and then some—to make an event like this happen, and Evans made certain that those contributions did not go unnoticed.
Dual CEOs Geoff Corbin and Vic Ide spoke about the work of the Cathedral City Senior Center, known as CCSC, and the growing needs they see every day. They shared the progress already made, along with plans for the future, always with an eye on serving Mid-Valley seniors. They also took time to honor several of the volunteers who quietly show up day after day to keep things running. Videos offered a glimpse into the programs and services that make the center such a vital place.

This was a night to dress up, step out, and enjoy one another’s company before many of the snowbirds head out for the summer. But it was more than just a social evening. The gala raised funds to support the many programs CCSC provides, and it also honored individuals who have made a lasting impact.
Sue Townsley received the Heart of the Community Award. Through her efforts, the center has grown into a cultural hub filled with art, music, plays, and the discovery of hidden talents among its members. She has a way of making things happen, and it shows. The Community Impact Award was presented to Patrick J. Payne, whose contributions have helped ensure the center can respond when needs arise.
The Cathedral City Senior Center is a place where aging is celebrated, not hidden. Its mission is simple and powerful: no one should feel isolated, hungry, or unseen. Seniors are welcomed with warmth, compassion, and dignity. From free food distribution on Monday mornings to daily programs that build emotional and social connections, the center delivers on that promise.
People come for the services, but they stay for the friendships. Many even return as volunteers, finding new purpose and connection. It’s proof that no one has to be alone—and that a community like this can truly change lives.
