Follow the Yellow Brick Road: The Wizard of Oz Comes to Palm Canyon Theatre This July
PALM SPRINGS, Calif. — Audiences of all ages are invited to journey over the rainbow this summer as Palm Canyon Theatre presents The Wizard of Oz, the beloved musical based on the classic film, running July 17–26, 2026. Featuring music and lyrics by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg, this timeless production continues to enchant generations with its uplifting themes of courage, friendship, imagination, and the enduring power of home.
When young Dorothy Gale (Ava Tethal) is swept away from her Kansas home by a powerful storm, she finds herself transported to the magical land of Oz. There, she embarks on an unforgettable adventure along the Yellow Brick Road with a group of memorable companions: the Scarecrow (Noah Wahlberg), who seeks wisdom; the Tin Man (Timothy Rathke), who longs for a heart; and the Cowardly Lion (Christina Quevedo), who dreams of finding courage.
Together, they set out to meet the mysterious Wizard (Paul Grant), hoping he can grant their wishes and help Dorothy return home. Their journey is anything but easy, as the Wicked Witch (Christine Michele) does everything possible to stand in their way. Along the path, the friends encounter danger, wonder, and self-discovery, ultimately learning that the qualities they seek may have been within them all along.
Filled with some of the most recognizable songs in musical theatre history—including “Over the Rainbow,” “If I Only Had a Brain,” and “We’re Off to See the Wizard”—the production blends fantasy, humor, and heartfelt emotion. The result is a theatrical experience that delights children while resonating deeply with adults, making The Wizard of Oz a cherished family favorite.
The production is directed by David Brooks and Leo Millmet, with choreography by Se Layne and music direction by Chuck Peery. Scenic and lighting design are by J.W. Layne, with costumes by Derik Shopinski.
Performances run July 17–26, 2026, with showtimes at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, 7 p.m. on Thursdays, and 2 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets, including fees, are $46 for general admission and $20 for students, with group discounts available.
